2 red pears (can substitute apples, but then add water)
8 leaves of chard with stems (I've also used Romaine or spinach or kale), chopped
juice of 1 large lemon
1 inch fresh ginger root, peeled and roughly chopped
1 T ground flax seed (optional)
1 banana (optional)
1/2 Cup water (optional, depends on your blender)
7 cubes of ice (to make it super cold)

Beet Smoothie
For a while now, I've been eating mostly raw, and I just made the yummiest smoothie out of beets, of all things! I made the smoothie for my fiance to take to work tomorrow and for my smoothie for tomorrow. My children requested a serving and didn't like it, so I tossed their serving into my red pear and chard smoothie I'm drinking today. The effect is a green smoothie with a dark purple swirl. Recipe for the beet smoothie after the jump. xo
